Agriturismo il Feudo, Teramo – Best Antipasti for Veggies!

Antipasto Il Feudo Style

Il Feudo is a sweet little azienda agriturismo located off the road between Roseto and Val Vomano in the Teramo province, up from a small town called Castelnuovo Vomano, one of several such towns that run along this road in the Vomano valley. There are many restaurants, trattorias, osterias and bars on this route, most of which we haven’t had the chance to sample yet. However, during our last visit to Abruzzo we decided to follow one of the small hand-made roadsigns indicating an agriturismo heading north of Castelnuovo, along a road called Contrada Feudo. Between the towns of Feudo Alto and Feudo Basso lies agriturismo Il Feudo.

Stuffed Peppers a la Il Feudo

[quote]Il Feudo consists of several small buildings off a little side road, one presumably providing accommodation for weary travellers, and another, larger building the restaurant/kitchen section for the ravenous & thirsty traveller; we were definitely in the latter camp on this blisteringly hot August lunchtime so the Il Feudo agriturismo promised blissful respite! Fortunately it provided it too – a leafy pergola allowed us to eat in the shade without sitting inside a stuffy neon-lit restaurant, and we had the company of a family of cats, all lending an air of rustic tranquility to the meal. Antipasto consisted of a fine selection of young and mature pecorini, salami, an interesting & excellent combination of piccante courgette giardiniera and green beans, beautifully sweet red peppers stuffed with breadcrumbs mozzarella & basil, and betroot & mushrooms, definitely the best selection of vegeterian cold antipasti we have had so far in Abruzzo.

Beetroot Mushrooms & Giardiniera Spaghetti

We had decided to go the pasta-only route so for primo piatto we plumped for plump, pici-style spaghetti (short & squat) with a sprinkle of chickpeas & delicious robust local mushrooms in a butter & herb sauce, all very yummy, but thankfully not heavy enough to weigh you down for the rest of the day which means we did have dessert – a very good Miele Cake – a local Honey & Ricotta layered torte – again very good, very alcoholic. The chilled house Vino bianco was fab, light & fruity again just right for a hot summer’s day. The place seemed to be staffed solely by young women when we there, the owner speaks a little English for those who need it, and they were all very friendly and jolly.
