An Autumn Drive out of Bascianella
We (a.k.a. Sammy & Roddy) initially conceived of the site with the purpose of providing some impartial information to those considering a holiday in Abruzzo or buying property in this increasingly popular region of central Italy.

‘Life in Abruzzo’ began for us in autumn 2004. We had hatched a mad plan that a slightly different way to cement our new romance and alternative way to invest what little extra money we had, was to buy and restore a property in mainland Europe.  Essentially it’s the sort of thing you do in your mid-thirties when you realise you have a crap pension or no pension at all and can’t face the idea of ISAs and stuff.  This seemed a novel way to save for a rainy day but also have fun, be able to go on holiday inexpensively, learn a language and hopefully allow us to grow into a community somewhere – something that London living doesn’t always give full-time.

We'd never heard of Abruzzo before putting into Google 'beaches, ski-ing, mountains Italy" when we were first considering buying a house in Italy… but back came a stream of results for Abruzzo whose main attractions were that it was Europe’s greenest region, it had wolves and bears, a glacier, chittara and that it bordered the Adriatic Sea – perfect for me (Sammy) a beach bunny and Roddy a mountain wild bore.

It took us nearly 3 long years to find, buy & restore our property and over that period we've become something of Abruzzophiles.  This Abruzzo website has now become something of a portal shrine to an area and its people that we have grown to love and admire for such a variety of reasons, whilst acting as a means of renting out our little Abruzzo holiday home.  Lastly and quite importantly it’s a place for our community and a cost effective means for all our new friends in Abruzzo to advertise in English.
