Abruzzo’s museums tally almost 100 in all and are a highly eclectic and diverse bunch. Whether you are interested in finding out more about your Abruzzo ancestors, wolves, bears, spinning or pigs there is really something for everyone.
Although deemed ‘provincial’ museums, no matter how small, each are tended with care and each have displays that are interesting enough for adults or for children.
I have to confess my favourite room so far has been measuring my toes alongside the mammoth’s in L’Aquila Museum. Cheap and open throughout the day in the summer, they are a traveller’s paradise to escape the heat and get beyond the beach.
