Amongst the numerous restaurants specialising in seafood on Abruzzo’s Adriatic coast, one we have returned to on several occasions is Osteria del Giullare (Jester) in the resort town of Giulianova.
Located right on the coastal road of Giulianova in skipping distance from the sandy beach, Osteria del Giullare is a small bar/restaurant with indoor seating and a bar and covered outdoor seating to escape the ungentle lunchtime sun.
We went there for some midday antipasti and pasta, comprising a selection of lightly battered calamari & polpi (squid & octopus) with a bowl of mussels, followed by linguine with vongole (clams) and tomatoes, cooked perfectly al dente and delicious with the chilled mezze of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.
Seafood is always very good here, and despite the restaurant’s relative proximity to the road it is always calm and sedate, normally with locals tucking into the traditional seafood dishes of the day. Many of the seaside restaurants offer a tourists’ menu with 2 or 3 courses at a reasonable set price.
Price – Tourist’s Menu: shared antipasta and 2 mains courses approximately €35 with half litre of white wine
Value for money – 8/10
Quality of food – 8/10

I would like to try it. Can you tell me when the large flea market in Gullinova is?
