Act Now to Save Abruzzo’s Bears

This is Stefano, photographed by Daniela Gentile the ‎#bear shot 3 times and murdered in Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo and found on 7  July 2013.

My little boy’s middle name is Orsetto after Abruzzo’s amazing incredibly endangered marsican , a name through which we hoped  he would always remember the land he was conceived as well as knowing he will always be our little .

It is abhorrent that a bear has been murdered here, 2 have been killed this year, the other hit by a car. Add to this the wolves that have been poisioned with still no charges brought shows the state of play and disregard of endangered animals in this  region of central Italy.

Only 1.3k people have endorsed the local Abruzzese charity, Salviamo l’Orso, founded in September 2012 and working so hard to try and protect Abruzzo’s bears; this out of a local population in Abruzzo of 1.3 million, such a shoddy long-term show of local pro-active support for ‘their’ bears. Come on Abruzzese show the world that you do love the animals you share Abruzzo with!

I’d ask everyone  who visits Abruzzo or has an association with this region of Italy to please LIKE Salviamo l”Orso on facebook and follow them on Twitter @salviamolorso to help them succeed where locals are failing to show interest in the c45 bears left in the region.  You may not be able to donate funds but if you have skills that you believe could be useful in raising international awareness do offer them and help protect Abruzzo’s & Italy treasure, the marsican bears.
